Coming Out The Other Side So Let's Get Mushy

As some of you guys may remember, my son has been struggling with a very serious health problem. While he's not out of the woods, he's definitely headed that way so I wanted to share that with all of you. I also wanted to tell you that your supportive comments meant so much to me. It might sound silly to some, but I was honestly in a very anxious, pull out my hair, flail my curled fist at inept or powerless medical professionals, place.

Hearing/Seeing words of reassurance, support, and kindness were much needed shots of comfort for me. I can just about guarantee that it gave me the grace not to yell as loudly at Doctors who didn't want to investigate my sons issue.

I'm not sure how to get Doctors to follow up and identify the cause so we can prevent future episodes. I'm nothing if not persistent and I will continue to push the subject with them. Being in a new country and unfamiliar with the NHS is definitely making all of this more challenging. If anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them.

Thank you everyone!

  1. Thanks Laura. There's been a complication but we're plugging on and his pain levels have come down a bit. It means a lot that you're thinking of us.

  2. Thank you for the tips Fern! So far, we continue to be dismissed. New medications have been started but he's still experiencing pain and difficulties. Unfortunately, the Doctors we've dealt with at hospitals so far, have either not discussed my son's case with the nurses or the nurses aren't comfortable discussing it with us. It's been very frustrating. I get it if the doctors don't know what's going on. They're only human. I do expect them to do some sort of investigation though other than making assumptions, guesses, and to quote one of them "hopefully if we do that, the pain will go away." So ridiculous.

  3. What a nightmare! I really hope the meds do help. I'm very much reminded of a friend who took 5 years to be diagnosed fibromyalgia - which I said when the symptoms started it sounded like it but she dismissed it as she was told it definitely wasn't that and more likely it was her own fault. So that was helpful.

    Best of luck.
