Lately, I've had a lot of songs running through my head. None of these songs are the original versions and that's what I find fairly fascinating.
Adam's cover of "Ring of Fire" is a drastic divergence from Johnny Cash's. It's different and not to everyone's taste but Adams' vocal skill is inarguably amazing.
Juliet Simms' cover of "Roxanne" blew me away. She sang with such emotion that I'm thoroughly hooked on it. Update: Weirdly, shortly after I posted this today, the video posted under the username: NBCTheVoice that I had shared here for all of you to watch, changed the status of the video to private so it was no longer viewable. There is a viewable video at this link on YouTube but the user hadn't allowed for embedding.
I first heard this while sitting in my favorite breakfast spot. I love the original but I also love jazz so this was a total winner for me.
A completely acapella rendition of "Creep" by Street Corner Symphony. This whole group is so crazy talented it crushes me that I haven't heard anything from them since seeing them on this show.
I love being exposed to unique, new or different takes on songs. Have you got any favorites you'd like to share?
Nine Inch Nails won't perform Hurt any more; Trent Reznor says he may have written it, but it's Johnny Cash's song.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's crazy but awesome. I couldn't help but think, as I watched the video, how relevant the lyrics were to his life.
ReplyDeleteI've been obsessed with Creep covers lately. I dunno why! Have you heard the Macy Grey cover? I haven't heard this one by Street Corner SYmphony, and IT IS FABULOUS. Oh my gosh! And don't even get me started on that Johnny Cash cover. Holy hell. It's GOOD.
ReplyDeleteBlack Hole Sun is an eternal favorite. God, how I love my 90s music?! Let's talk about Lisa Loeb soon.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard of some of thee, Thanks for sharing.
